Execution of ‘Mojahad Korkor’ on the Birthday Anniversary of ‘Kian Piroflak’

“Mojahad Korkor,” an Izeh-based protester, was executed on the birthday anniversary of “Kian Piroflak.”
The execution order for Abbas Korkoori, known as Mojahad Korkor, a resident of Izeh, was carried out in the early morning of Wednesday, June 21 (Khordad 21), coinciding with the birthday anniversary of Kian Piroflak. After announcing the execution, the Judiciary’s news agency described him as “one of the main perpetrators of unrest in Izeh over the past years.”
Mojahad Korkor was arrested by security forces in December 2022 (Azar 1401), and the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death in April 2023 (Farvardin 1402). His execution sentence was overturned once by the Supreme Court, but he was re-sentenced to death by a parallel branch on charges of “moharebeh (enmity against God) and corruption on earth.”
The Islamic Republic’s judicial system identified Mojahad as the main perpetrator of shooting on November 16, 2022 (25 Aban 1401) in Izeh, in which seven people, including nine-year-old Kian Piroflak, were killed during protest gatherings. This claim came despite the Piroflak family repeatedly denying accusations against Izeh residents, including Mojahad, regarding the shooting, and instead emphasizing that government security forces shot at them.
Meysom Piroflak, Kian’s father, had previously released a video statement saying: “I have no complaints against Mojahad Korkor and the children of Izeh, and I never will, because my wife and I witnessed with our own eyes that security forces under the command of Commander Eidi Alipour sprayed our car with gunfire, wounded me, and killed my son.”
Reports emerged yesterday about the Korkor family being summoned to the prison for a final visit. After these reports were published, human rights activists and social media users expressed concern about a possible execution of Mojahad and posted messages in support of him.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have repeatedly pointed to unfair trial proceedings and torture of Mojahad to obtain forced confessions, and have also warned about the possibility of his unjust execution.
