Trial of a Dervish Without Legal Representative; Mohsen Azizi Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

“Mohsen Azizi” is one of hundreds of imprisoned dervishes whose family says he was tried without a lawyer in the Revolutionary Court and sentenced to three years in prison.
Mr. Azizi was arrested on March 21, 2018, following the Golestan Haftom protests, when he was beaten by security forces.
“Niloofar Doulatabadi,” the wife of this dervish, told Voice of America that Mohsen Azizi, without having a lawyer, was tried in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court under the judge Ahmadzadegan on charges of gathering and conspiracy to take action against national security and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Following this verdict, Mr. Azizi described Iran’s courts as unjust and refused to appear in the appellate court.
According to Ms. Doulatabadi, Mohsen Azizi suffered fractures to his nose and knee due to beatings by security forces during his arrest, and with more than 10 months having passed since his detention without medical attention, his physical condition has not been proper and he requires surgery.
