Protest Demonstrations in Isfahan’s New Shapur District for Second Consecutive Day and Police Clashes with People

Some reports indicate that protest demonstrations by Isfahan residents in the New Shapur district of the city were held for the second consecutive day.

Based on images and news published on social networks and videos sent to Voice of America, a large crowd of people from this area of Isfahan also marched on Wednesday in protest of inflation, economic hardships, and government performance, and chanted slogans.

In some videos, it is clear that protesters are chanting: “The silence of every Iranian is betrayal to Iran” and “Khamenei, have shame, abandon the country.”

Reports indicate that police forces clashed with protesters, and people also set several tires on fire in the streets.

Officers warned people at the beginning of the march not to move forward, but images showed that protesters were ignoring police warnings.

First day of protest demonstrations in Isfahan’s New Shapur

On Tuesday, reports and films sent to Voice of America also documented thousands of people protesting in the New Shapur area of Isfahan.

These protesters, who are opposed to the inflation of recent months as well as power cuts during the hot summer season in the area, demonstrated while chanting slogans against the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the sent films, groups of people and shopkeepers are seen closing their shops and joining the crowd of protesters.

In some of the released films, protesters, while criticizing Iran’s officials and their policies, have chanted slogans such as “Not Gaza, not Lebanon, my life is a sacrifice for Iran.”

Some protesters also carried placards that read “Bazaar with dignity, support, support.” Like protests in recent months, protesters also chanted “Reza Shah, may your spirit rest in peace” in praise of Reza Shah Pahlavi.

In recent days, the value of each US dollar reached around 12,000 tomans in the informal market. Rouhani administration’s efforts to contain the value of the dollar have failed.

This comes as in a few more days, the first round of Iran’s nuclear sanctions imposed by President Trump will be reinstated, targeting Iran’s oil and gas market.
