Suspension of Early Morning Flights at Mashhad Airport, Two Main Routes Closed in Razavi Khorasan Province

Mashhad Airport’s Public Relations Department has announced that due to a significant decrease in horizontal visibility at the airport, incoming flights at this airport have been suspended since early morning on Wednesday. Two main routes in Razavi Khorasan Province have also been closed following rainfall in recent hours.

Hasan Jafari, Public Relations Director of Mashhad Airport, told the state news agency IRNA that flights resumed at 5:40 AM and the airport is currently operational with flights being conducted.

Mashhad International Airport is the second busiest airport in Iran after Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, with an average of 180 to 250 incoming and outgoing flights per day.

Meanwhile, reports have also been received from Razavi Khorasan Province regarding the closure of two main routes.

As Brigadier General Hadi Omidvar, Commander of the Traffic Police of Razavi Khorasan Province, announced on Wednesday morning, the routes “Kashmar to Kohsorkh due to landslide and flooding” and the route “Quchan to Sabzevar due to water flooding in a section of the road” have been closed.

According to the Meteorological Organization’s announcement, a new wave of rainfall will enter Razavi Khorasan Province by Wednesday noon.

The General Department of Meteorology of Razavi Khorasan Province had predicted heavy rainfall for the sixth and seventh days of Farvardin month, as well as the occurrence of flooding and swelling of streams, and the possibility of disruption to the transportation system in the province.
