Amnesty International Calls for Release of Abdullah Bozorgzadeh

Amnesty International has issued a statement calling on Iranian authorities for the immediate and unconditional release of Abdullah Bozorgzadeh Sarbazi, a Baloch civil activist.

The civil activist was arrested on June 17 for participating in a protest rally against abuses that occurred in Iranshahr city in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

Amnesty International states that according to international law, this detention is unlawful and arbitrary, as Abdullah Bozorgzadeh has been targeted by security forces solely for participating in a peaceful gathering in support of women and girls who are victims of sexual abuse and in protest against the impunity of those responsible for sexual violence.

Amnesty International has called on the Islamic Republic’s authorities to inform the public about the location of this civil activist’s detention until his release and to provide him access to a lawyer.

Abdullah Bozorgzadeh’s father has staged sit-ins twice at a mosque in Mohammadabad, Iranshahr, in protest of his son’s arrest and lack of information about him.
