Shocking Situation in Delft County with Execution of Around Two Thousand People

The execution of approximately two thousand people in Delft County has created a shocking situation in the aforementioned city.
“Yahya Ebrahimi,” representative of Delft County in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, announced that approximately two thousand people are on the verge of execution for drug trafficking in this city.
According to “Jamaran,” Yahya Ebrahimi stated that he traveled to Delft County last week and met with families of prisoners who have been sentenced to death for drug trafficking. Regarding his meeting with the prisoners’ families, he said: “Based on reports provided by the prisoners’ families, unfortunately between one thousand to two thousand of our fellow citizens in Delft County have been sentenced to death for drug trafficking, and they are now at the execution stage, and this number is very horrifying.”
The Delft County representative, while referring to a letter he wrote to the head of the judiciary seeking to prevent the execution of these sentences, added: “I was truly affected by this situation both for myself and for the officials who over the past 44 years created the conditions for crime and these executions. Unfortunately, we are now witnessing these individuals on the brink of execution.”
Yahya Ebrahimi announced in a video published on social networks: “I have requested from the head of the judiciary to refrain from executing these sentences for God’s sake, for the people, and because we officials must be accountable to these dear ones. This is because officials could have helped this county, which has a population of more than 150,000, to escape from poverty and misery.”
It should be noted that the UN General Assembly, through the issuance of a resolution, condemned widespread human rights violations in Iran. This resolution condemned the execution of many death sentences by the Islamic Republic and deemed them contrary to Iran’s international obligations. The aforementioned resolution specifically stated that these executions were carried out based on forced confessions and without conducting a fair trial.
According to Amnesty International reports, executions related to drug crimes in Iran during the first 5 months of 2023 constituted two-thirds of the total number of executions in Iran, and those sentenced to death were members of marginalized individuals with dire economic conditions.
The execution of two thousand prisoners accused of drug trafficking has been issued by the judiciary at a time when the Islamic Republic regime itself is the largest importer of narcotics. Last week, one of the officials also announced that the economy of Iranian prisons depends on drug sales, yet individuals who resort to drug trafficking due to extremely poor economic conditions in Iran are considered criminals and are sentenced to death through unjust rulings.
