Workers in Islamshahr and Zanjan Gather in Protest Over Unpaid Wages

Following a strike by workers at Damghan Railway Traverse Company, railway workers in Islamshahr and Zanjan also gathered in protest over not receiving several months of wages and benefits.

Based on reports from news websites and images shared on social media, railway workers in Islamshahr have gone on strike due to not receiving four months of wages.

Simultaneously, reports have also emerged of railway workers in Zanjan gathering in front of the Zanjan Provincial Governor’s office. These workers gathered in protest against non-payment of four months of wages and 15 months of insurance contributions.

It was previously reported that railway workers in northeast Damghan (Traverse Company), who have still not received several months of back wages and seven months of insurance, have also gone on strike.

This is the latest in a series of protests and strikes by workers in the northeast Damghan railway sector (Traverse Company). They had also gathered in front of the Damghan Municipality and the Friday Prayer Imam’s office in Esfand of 1396 (February-March 2018) in protest of not receiving several months of wages and insurance premiums.

In recent months, nearly every day has seen one or several worker protests.

Some reports indicate that approximately six thousand labor gatherings have been held over the past year, mostly in protest against non-payment of wages for several months, mass layoffs, uncertainty following the privatization of factories, and low wages.
