Organization of Judicial Penalties: Organized Crime Confirmed in Illegal Vehicle Imports

Iran’s «Organization of Judicial Penalties» announced that in the case of illegal vehicle imports, «organized crime has been confirmed», and stated that the organization has referred the case to the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office after declaring itself «incompetent».
According to Misan News Agency, Abdolmajid Ejtehadi, Director General of Prevention and Supervision of Goods and Currency Smuggling at the Organization of Judicial Penalties, said on Thursday, July 14, that with the issuance of a declaration of incompetence, the case of illegal vehicle imports has been sent to the Tehran Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office.
From July 28 until December 9, 2017, while the vehicle import registration website under the Ministry of Industry was blocked, 6481 vehicle orders were registered on this website.
About two months ago, Mojtaba Khosrowtaj, head of the Organization for Development and Trade, confirmed that approximately six thousand vehicles were registered illegally.
Thereafter, Naser Seraj, the Inspector General of the country, announced that the illegal registration of these vehicles occurred due to the website being hacked. Following these statements, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade denied that the website had been hacked.
However, the «Shargh» newspaper reported that the Ministry of Industry and Mines website was not hacked, but rather the «key» to this matter is an individual named «Kh» who held a position in the Trade Organization.
According to Shargh’s report, the person in question, along with two others, managed to register «more than five thousand orders» by accessing the Ministry of Industry and Mines website, and received «from 5 to 20 million tomans» for each order. Shargh wrote that these three individuals are currently in custody.
Now Abdolmajid Ejtehadi, Director General of Prevention and Supervision of Goods and Currency Smuggling at the Organization of Judicial Penalties, says: «In this case, organized crime has been confirmed and ultimately the case has been sent to the Islamic Revolution Prosecutor’s Office of Tehran with a declaration of incompetence.»
This official of the Organization of Judicial Penalties stated that 6481 fake computer permits were issued for importing these vehicles, and the applicants were 274 legal or natural persons.
According to Abdolmajid Ejtehadi, the total number of vehicles cleared through customs from this registration was 1924 units, with clearance prevented for 155 units after the crime was announced.
On the other hand, following the disclosure of this violation, Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran, gave Muhammad Shariatmadari, Minister of Industry, two weeks to investigate this violation, which ultimately led him on Wednesday to form a committee responsible for investigating the illegal registration of these imported vehicles and the clearance of 1924 units from them.
