Amnesty International: Human Rights Situation in Iran Has Reached a Critical Point

Amnesty International considered the Iranian government’s action in arbitrarily detaining human rights lawyers and women’s rights activists in Iran as a sign of intensified suppression of civil society.

According to this international human rights organization, with such actions, civil society and human rights defenders in Iran have been placed in an atmosphere of complete suffocation and fear.

The organization adds that the human rights situation in Iran has reached a critical point.

In this report, reference is made to the arrest of Hadi Omid, women’s rights activist, Payam Darfshan, Farrokh Forouzan and Arash Keykhosravi, human rights defense lawyers, and it is stated that the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps arrested Najmeh Vahedi, a women’s rights activist, at her home in Tehran.

Amnesty International has considered the objective of these efforts to be silencing the voices of human rights activists in Iran.
