US Sanctions Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ ‘Currency Network’

The US Treasury Department has sanctioned a “currency network” belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). According to the department, this network has converted and smuggled millions of dollars for the benefit of the IRGC.
The US Treasury Department announced on Thursday (April 10/Ordibehesht 20) in a statement that it has added a network consisting of 9 individuals and Iranian companies to its sanctions list. The US Treasury Secretary stated that this network, in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, has been engaged in converting and transferring currency for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
The sanctioned parties, consisting of 6 individuals and 3 Iranian companies, have been added to the US sanctions list as part of the fight against terrorism. Steve Mnuchin, US Treasury Secretary, said this network has converted hundreds of millions of dollars into other foreign currencies. According to him, the Central Bank of Iran has also cooperated in providing this network access to foreign bank accounts.
Moqaddas Amini, Mohammad Hassan Khodaei, Saeed Najafpour, Masoud Nikbakht, Foad Salehi, Mohammad Reza Khedmati, Jahan Ares Kish Company, Mohammad Reza Khedmati Cooperative and Partners, and Rashed Currency Exchange are the sanctioned individuals and companies.
The US Treasury Department has blocked the assets of these individuals and companies within US jurisdiction and prohibited US citizens from conducting financial transactions with them.
The US Treasury Department’s statement also warned foreign nationals that if they cooperate with these individuals and companies in transferring money, they may be subject to US sanctions.
