Power Plant Workers in Ahvaz and Factory Workers in Qazvin Hold Protests Over Unpaid Wages

Continuing a series of labor union gatherings and worker protests across Iran, employees of Ramin Vis Power Plant in Khuzestan have stopped work and held a demonstration.

Based on images and news published on social media, employees of this power plant in Ahvaz held a gathering on Wednesday, May 9th, protesting the non-payment of their wages and benefits.

In another protest, workers at Iran Ghootie Can Factory in Qazvin gathered on Tuesday in front of the Social Security office in Alvand city, protesting job and financial uncertainty. These workers stated that they are in a difficult situation due to not receiving their wages and benefits.

In recent months, almost every day has seen several protest gatherings by workers. Some reports indicate that approximately six thousand worker protests have been held over the past year, most of them in protest against months of unpaid wages, mass layoffs, job uncertainty following the privatization of factories, and low wages.
