Saadi Pool, the Qanat of Shiraz People’s Memories, a Legacy of Shiraz Chaharshanbe Soori Celebrations, in Complete Drought

Spring . FCN News Correspondent, Saadi fish pool in Shiraz has undoubtedly been filled with memories for every traveler and tourist who has visited the mausoleum of Saadi in Shiraz. This fish pool belongs to the Saadi Qanat, which dates back to the Sassanid era and has a history of 1400 years.

According to experts, over the past few years, the water of the Saadi Qanat has gradually declined due to consecutive droughts, until this year it caused the complete drying of the fish pool. In 2014, it was also announced that in addition to drought, part of the Saadi Qanat channels may have collapsed and required dredging. With dredging, in September of last year, the Qanat was revived again and water began to flow in its channels, but it appears that drought has once again dried up the water in this Qanat.

Based on historical documents, the water of the Saadi Qanat, during the Sassanid period, irrigated the area of Delgosha Garden in Shiraz and its subordinate farms, and during Saadi’s time, the flow of water in this Qanat brought verdure and created a recreational place for the people of Shiraz, where Saadi himself resided in his later years.

However, it must be understood that the main reason for this situation is the mismanagement of the city administrators and their incorrect and inappropriate policies in running affairs. It appears that successive explosions in the mountains surrounding the Saadi district for the construction of highways, as well as the construction of very large garden cities along the route from the Saadi district to Kharrameh, which itself has led to the construction of numerous authorized and unauthorized wells in this area, is the main cause of the drying of the Saadi Pool and the surrounding Qanats. Therefore, once again, the unspecialized administrators of Fars Province, by adopting incorrect measures, have caused numerous problems in this city and are trying to divert people’s attention toward drought by concealing the main cause, but the reality is merely the mismanagement of inexperienced and unspecialized administrators.
