Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry: Ceasefire Violated, Clashes Continue on Karabakh Border

According to FCN, a news agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the unilateral ceasefire between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia has been broken by Armenian forces.

On Sunday, the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan announced to the news agency that the ceasefire (unilateral) has been violated on the frontline of the Fuzuli, Tartar, and Aghdam regions.

Earlier in the day, the Republic of Azerbaijan had unilaterally announced a ceasefire in the Upper Karabakh region (mountainous area).

Russian news agency Sputnik, citing its correspondent in the region, reports that the city center of Martakert in the Upper Karabakh region came under artillery attack on Sunday with several explosions occurring, but no one was wounded. According to Sputnik, local residents took shelter.

Intense clashes on Saturday between forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia resulted in the deaths of at least 30 soldiers from both sides.

Trend reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry, that six Armenian tanks were destroyed and over one hundred Armenian forces were killed and wounded in the clashes. However, independent news agencies have not provided such figures.

The Defense Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan said at least one of its helicopters was destroyed and twelve soldiers were “martyred.” Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan told the country’s National Security Council that 18 Armenian soldiers were killed and 35 were wounded.

Both sides have blamed each other for Saturday’s clashes.
