Is It Too Late to Save the World from Excessive Global Warming?

A new study shows that current levels of carbon pollution in the air have reached a point where exceeding the internationally agreed limit for Earth’s warming will inevitably occur.
According to the Associated Press, the authors of this new research say that despite this, all hope is not yet lost.
According to these researchers, if humanity quickly stops the emission of additional greenhouse gases resulting from burning coal, oil, and natural gas, exceeding that warming threshold could be delayed for centuries.
Earth’s climate is now on average 1.1 degrees Celsius warmer compared to the pre-industrial period, and this reality has brought with it many environmental disasters.
International climate agreements have set their goal at limiting this warming to no more than 2 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial period, and the Paris Climate Agreement added an even more ambitious target of 1.5 degrees.
However, a study published Monday in the journal “Nature” calculates that it is too late to reach these goals, and current pollution levels will cause Earth’s warming to reach 2.3 degrees.
According to scientists, just as when braking a car, the stopping point of the vehicle will be several meters ahead, Earth’s warming has the same situation.
Andrew Dessler, a climatologist at the University of Texas and one of the authors of this research, says that despite this, if the world quickly reduces additional carbon emissions to zero, the warming of 2.3 degrees could be delayed for several centuries, enough to give human society the opportunity to adapt to new conditions or even find a technological solution to this problem.
This climatologist warns that otherwise the situation will be “very dire.”
A new annual report by three research institutions in the field of environment and climate change announced that in terms of preventing climate change, among 57 countries around the world, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Iran have the worst performance.
