Air Pollution Closes Universities in Tehran Province

Following the closure of schools in Tehran Province today due to severe air pollution, officials announced that schools in Tehran, Tabriz, Bushehr, and several other cities will be closed tomorrow due to air pollution, and the closure of Tehran universities has been added to this list.
Mohammad Taghi Zadeh, Deputy Governor of Tehran, told ISNA news agency: “Following the continuation of air pollution, Tehran’s Air Pollution Emergency Committee decided that due to the accumulation of pollutants and the concentration of suspended particles in Tehran’s air, schools in the province at all levels in both morning and afternoon shifts, except for 2 counties of Firoozkouh and Damavand, will be closed tomorrow, Monday. Of course, schools in Rudehen city from Damavand County are also closed.”
He added that “in this regard, Tehran’s Air Pollution Emergency Committee has closed all educational centers and universities in Tehran Province tomorrow, Monday.”
It is also reported that due to air pollution, schools in Tabriz and several other cities in East Azerbaijan Province will be closed tomorrow due to pollution.
Majid Ejraei, head of the information and public relations department of Bushehr Province’s Education and Training Organization, announced that all schools in Bushehr Province except Deir County and Bardkhun and Kharg regions will be closed in the morning and afternoon shifts tomorrow.
All kindergartens, preschools, and schools in Qom city as well as Salehabad and Central districts were announced closed today, Sunday, due to air pollution, and officials say the city’s air “is in an unhealthy condition for the general public.”
