US: We will raise Iran's missile test at the Security Council on Monday

The United States will raise the issue of Iran's recent missile tests at next week's United Nations Security Council meeting.

Samantha Power, the US ambassador to the UN headquarters in New York, announced in a statement that we will raise the issue of these dangerous tests at the Security Council meeting convened at the request of the US and will consult with members on it.

Power added: "These launches demonstrate the need to work with our partners around the world to calm and weaken Iran's missile program."

The US representative to the UN added that Iranian military officials have repeatedly emphasized that these missiles were built to destroy Israel. "We condemn this blatant threat from a member of the UN and one of our closest allies."

Last week, Iran tested several ballistic missiles as part of a drill conducted by the Revolutionary Guards, and on the final day of the drill, two ballistic missiles were fired.

Under UN sanctions, Iran is prohibited from testing ballistic missiles because they are capable of carrying nuclear warheads. However, Iranian officials say the purpose of the tests is to test Iran's defense capabilities.

This is Iran's third missile test after the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 countries. It was previously said that these tests could be a violation of the nuclear agreement, but so far no serious action has been taken against Iran, and the Islamic Republic considers missile tests its natural right.

In recent years, Western countries have accused Iran of planning to threaten Israel by testing long-range missiles.

However, Fars News Agency reported that one of the two missiles was inscribed in Hebrew with Ayatollah Khomeini's famous sentence: "Israel must be wiped off the map of the world."

Some analysts previously told VOA that the ballistic missile test, with its slogan on it, was intended to undermine Hassan Rouhani's position rather than a threat to Israel. However, several Western countries have so far reacted to Iran's missile test.

However, Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday that Iran's missile test does not contradict UN resolutions and the agreement between Iran and the P5+1 countries.
