US denies lifting some sanctions on Iran

Reuters quoted a US State Department spokesman as saying: "Until everything is agreed upon, nothing will be agreed upon." Mahmoud Vaezi had said that an agreement had been reached on lifting oil sanctions and sanctions on the Khamenei family.
While Mahmoud Vaezi, the head of the presidential office in Iran, announced on Wednesday, July 21, an agreement to lift oil and shipping sanctions by the United States, a spokesperson for the US State Department said: "Until everything is agreed upon, nothing will be agreed upon."
Vaezi also said that in the Vienna talks, which were halted last Sunday, it was agreed to lift sanctions on individuals and institutions related to the Supreme Leader's household.
According to Reuters, a US State Department spokesman said that no agreement will be reached until all issues are resolved.
"During negotiations on complex issues, negotiators try to produce a text that covers the main issues, but I reiterate: nothing will be agreed until everything is agreed," he told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The US State Department has not yet officially responded to Vaezi's remarks.
The foreign ministers of Germany and France have also previously said that the Vienna talks are difficult. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said in a joint press conference with his American counterpart that despite the step-by-step progress of the Vienna talks, the talks still face numerous obstacles.
Franck Riester, France's assistant foreign trade minister, also said: "If the negotiations do not progress, we will have to make difficult decisions in the coming days or weeks."
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also said on Sunday (June 20) that there is still a "significant distance" to go before sanctions are lifted and Iran meets its nuclear commitments.
