The execution of the three-year sentence against "Rana Korkor" is the cry of a family that is being stifled by the oppressive apparatus.

The execution of Rana Korkor's three-year sentence indicates the pressure exerted by the Iranian judicial system against families seeking justice, silencing the voice of protest with imprisonment.

Rana Korkur, the sister of Mujahid Korkur and Negar Korkur, announced in a message that her three-year prison sentence had been carried out. In her message, Rana maintained the spirit of protest and perseverance and accepted the execution of the sentence.

Rana wrote in her message: "Friends, my dear ones, my companions, peace be upon Iran, peace be upon freedom. Writing these few lines is perhaps the hardest thing I have ever done, not out of fear of prison, but out of heartbreak for you, for my child, for what I fought for, and for this life that was full of pain, but full of honor."

I am a single woman, a mother who is the head of a family. Now I have to present myself to serve three years in prison, and my only crime was standing by the truth. My crime was innocence. Along the way, I lost the ones dearest to my heart. My brother was executed because he didn't want to accept the lie, my sister became silent in exile, lonely and stressed. Now I am left, wounded but steadfast.

Now that I must go, I want to ask for your forgiveness. If I have burdened you along the way, if I have not been able to be as I should and perhaps could be, please forgive me. I go with a calm heart because I know I have not remained silent because my conscience is at ease. This prison will hold my body, but my spirit is free. Remember me not as someone who failed, but as a woman who stood up; until we meet again.

According to human rights sources and Persian-language media, Rana Korkur was arrested by security forces in the summer of 1403 and transferred to the women's ward after interrogation. She is known as a protest activist and a member of the family of the plaintiffs.

The charges against him include titles such as "inciting and seducing the people," "interfering in protests," or "collaborating with opposition movements," which are usually used in political-security cases; some institutions have also spoken of case-building and information pressure to issue a verdict against him.

According to announcements and posts published on social media and human rights advocacy channels, a three-year prison sentence has been issued against Rana Korkur, and this sentence has now been "executed," meaning she must report to serve her sentence.

The execution of the sentence against a female head of household who is at the heart of protests and lawsuits, while indicating the continuation of the strangulation and pressure on the families of the protesters, also has the following consequences:

  • Turning families seeking justice into targets of secondary punishment; a policy that both intensifies the family's personal grief and weakens the voice of public protest.
  • Using general and security charges to silence citizens and families of plaintiffs; these types of charges usually make it difficult for defendants to access a fair trial and effective defense.
  • The human consequence of the conviction of a mother who is the head of the family is separation from her child and the loss of the family's breadwinner, which places a heavy social and economic burden on the survivors.

Human rights activists and the media should monitor the implementation of such sentences and the judicial process surrounding them, increase international pressure and information by documenting cases of arrests and trials, and make the voices of families and prisoners heard by relevant institutions. Independent sources should pursue the possibility of accessing case documents and meeting with the accused to prevent violations of due process rights.
