Internet disruption in areas around Tehran; "Fiber telecommunications caught fire"

Simultaneously with the Chaharshanbeh Suri celebrations in Iran, reports indicate a two-day disruption of fixed and mobile internet operators in several cities on the outskirts of Tehran. The cause of the disruption has been announced to be a fire in the "telecom fiber pool".

According to reports, on Tuesday, March 14, mobile phone and internet antennas of fixed and mobile operators Awal and Irancell were disrupted since Monday afternoon in the cities of Robat Karim, Chahardangeh, Parand, Islamshahr, Roudehen, Baharestan, and Damavand. Tehran Telecommunications Public Relations stated that the disruption was caused by a “fire in telecommunications fiber” in one of the ponds at the Azadegan-Saeedi intersection in southern Tehran.

The cause of the fire and the extent of possible injuries and damages have not yet been announced, but operators have said that "the disruption will be resolved soon."

At the same time, on Tuesday, the Supreme Council for Cyberspace in Iran, headed by Ebrahim Raisi, discussed a plan to protect cyberspace and called for this plan to be "finalized" in the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
