Behbahan protests; determining the time and branch of the court to hear the charges against four citizens

HRANA News Agency – The court hearing to investigate the charges against Mohammad Fatemi, Amin Salehizadeh, Mohammad Nazarian Tambi, and Sajjad Tayyibi will be held on January 25 in Branch 103 of Criminal Court 2 of Behbahan County. These citizens were arrested by security forces along with a number of citizens during the protests in July last year in Behbahan against the “disorderly economic situation of the country” and “the issuance of death sentences in response to the popular protests of 2019.”

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, the time and branch of the court hearing to investigate the charges against Mohammad Fatemi, Amin Salehizadeh, Mohammad Nazarian Tambi, and Sajjad Tayyibi, citizens of Behbahan, have been set.

The court hearing to hear the charges against these citizens will be held on January 24, 1402, in Branch 103 of Criminal Court 2 in Behbahan County.
Mohammad Fatemi, Amin Salehizadeh, and Mohammad Nazarian Tambi were previously summoned to Branch 3 of the Behbahan City Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office, headed by Judge Kazem Tayeb, in November 2020 on charges of "insulting the leadership, participating in disrupting public order and peace, disrupting the security of the country and society, and colluding to commit a crime against internal/external security."

These citizens had previously been arrested in connection with the Behbahan protests. Mohammad Nazarian was allegedly beaten and physically tortured by intelligence officers during interrogations.

Amin Salehizadeh is 21 years old, has a fifth-grade education, and is unemployed.

On July 16, 2018, the people of Behbahan held a protest rally in the city’s Bank Melli Square to protest the “disastrous economic situation of the country” and “the issuance of death sentences in response to last year’s popular protests.” A large number of protesting citizens were arrested during the rally and some in their homes after the protests ended. HRANA previously reported in several reports that dozens of citizens had been arrested in connection with these protests, while verifying the identities of a number of those arrested.

During the November 2019 protests in Behbahan, a number of citizens living in the city, including Mehrdad Dashtini, Mahmoud Dashtini, Farzad Ansarifar, Mohammad Hossein Qanavati, Ehsan Abdullahnejad, and Mohammad Hashemdar, were killed by security forces. HRANA also reported on November 20, 2019, that Branch 102 of the Criminal Court of the Two Counties of Behbahan had issued sentences of 109 years in prison and 2,590 lashes for 36 people arrested during the November protests in Behbahan.
