Biden: West will respond harshly to Russian chemical attack

US President Joe Biden said in Brussels that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants NATO to collapse. He, who was in Brussels to attend three important meetings, added: "Putin would rather face 30 independent countries than 30 allied countries, so nothing is more important than maintaining unity in NATO, the European Union and the Group of Seven (G7)."

Biden also emphasized: "We (America) believe that Putin has committed a war crime."

The US president warned Russia that the West would respond harshly if it used chemical weapons. He did not elaborate on the harsh response.

Biden also called for Russia to be expelled from the Group of 20 countries.

The US President arrived in Brussels on the evening of Wednesday, March 23, to attend an emergency meeting of the leaders of NATO, the European Union, and the Group of Seven industrialized countries on the issue of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Biden said NATO's military presence in Eastern Europe will be strengthened and the toughest sanctions will be imposed on Russia.

In response to Biden's remarks, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described NATO expansion as dangerous in a statement, saying that NATO is consolidating its anti-Russian course and, by promising more weapons to Ukraine, is confirming its interest in continuing hostilities.
