Security clashes with workers continue in Iran; Emad Kashir, one of Haft Tappeh workers, arrested

In the wake of security clashes with labor protests in Iran, labor sources reported that one of the Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers was arrested by Susa Intelligence and Security Police officers.

The Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Workers' Union reported that on the morning of Wednesday, November 2, the Susa Intelligence and Security Police "raided" the home of "Imad Kashir", a Haft Tappeh sugarcane worker, and arrested him along with his personal belongings, including his mobile phone.

According to this report, Mr. Kasher was transferred to the Susa Security Police after being arrested.

This is not the first time that reports have been published about officers raiding to arrest Haft Tapeh workers.

Previously, Farzaneh Zeilabi, a lawyer for several Haft Tappeh workers, had said on Sunday, October 19, that "security officers inappropriately raided the home of the sister of Mohammad Khanifar, one of the Haft Tappeh workers, to arrest him, and also went to arrest Ebrahim Abbasi Monjezi and Yousef Bahmai, who were not present at the home."

The lawyer said that after this issue, upon referring to the Shush City Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that in the previous cases filed against my clients, "no arrest warrants were issued" and "no new cases have been registered against them in the system."

Haft Tappeh workers' protests began on a large scale in 2018, but were met with a security and judicial crackdown by the government. Ismail Bakhshi, a representative of Haft Tappeh workers, was among the workers who, after being arrested, stated that he had been tortured and was arrested for the second time in February of last year.

The United States has repeatedly condemned the Iranian regime's security crackdown on workers. The US State Department recently said in a message that the Islamic Republic's regime could have paid the salaries of workers in Iran with the money it spent in Syria.
