At least six people have been killed in a powerful earthquake on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, as rescue workers continue to search for people trapped under rubble.
Hundreds of people were injured in a 6.2 magnitude earthquake on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, with 200 reported to have serious injuries.
At least six people have died so far, but rescue and relief efforts are continuing to pull victims from the rubble.
Several houses and buildings in the area have collapsed or been damaged, including two hospitals and the municipal building in the town of Mamoujo.
"We are currently trying to pull people out from under the rubble of the municipality building. They are trapped under the rubble and we can hear their voices," said Mohammad Idris, a spokesman for the island's governor.
Countless people are still trapped under the rubble, and rescuers are waiting for better-equipped tools to rescue them.
The earthquake struck at around 1:30 a.m. local time on Friday, January 15, and was centered in the west of the island.
The earthquake displaced about 2,000 people. The previous day (Thursday), a magnitude 9.5 earthquake had shaken the region.
