Amnesty International calls for the release of Amir Salar Davoudi, a lawyer imprisoned in Iran

More than two years have passed since Amir Salar Davoudi, a lawyer imprisoned in Iran, was arrested in his office by judicial officers and transferred to Evin Prison, Amnesty International says the lawyer must be "released immediately."
On Thursday, November 10, Amnesty International published a text on its Twitter page calling the conviction of Amir Salar Davoudi unfair and wrote: "Amir Salar Davoudi is one of the victims of the repression of human rights lawyers by the Iranian authorities in recent years, who is now in his second year of unjust conviction."
The human rights organization also emphasized: "He has been punished for defending human rights and must be released immediately and unconditionally."
Tanaz Kolahchian, the wife of Amirsalar Davoudi, also wrote on her Instagram page, referring to the two years since the arrest of the imprisoned lawyer: "In these two years, which were full of intense and difficult days for him, I and especially our daughter Irene, a girl who misses her father and counts the days for the love of Wednesdays to meet her father face to face and be a sweetheart to him. It has been a time of many ups and downs and hardships that only God knows, but what we are going through these days is hope and steadfastness in the path he believed in: defending the right and speaking the truth, without censorship and "without retouching."
Amir Salar Davoudi, a human rights lawyer in Iran, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison and more than 100 lashes by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in two separate cases on charges of “insulting officials and propagating against the regime,” “collaborating with hostile governments through an interview with the Voice of America television network,” and “forming a group for subversion.” According to the Islamic Penal Code, 15 years of the prison sentence will be enforced.
Previously, Voice of America reported, quoting Mostafa Turk Hamedani, lawyer for Amirsalar Davoudi, that the 30-year prison sentence for the lawyer had been upheld.
Previously, Philip Luther, Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa Research Director, reacted to the 30-year prison sentence and 111 lashes handed down to Amir Salar Davoudi, a lawyer at a courthouse and member of the Center's Bar Association, saying: "This is a shockingly heavy sentence and a cruel injustice."
This imprisoned lawyer in Iran has represented a number of political and intellectual prisoners in recent years, including Soheil Arabi. Mr. Davoudi was arrested on November 10, 2018.
International organizations, including Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders, say that the Islamic Republic of Iran violates freedom of expression and restricts the media.
