Iranian military vessel Kharg sank after fire

An Iranian Navy training support vessel caught fire in the Jask maritime area. All personnel on board were evacuated to shore, but attempts to rescue the Kharg vessel were unsuccessful and it sank.

The Public Relations Department of the Second Maritime Region of Jask announced in a statement on Wednesday, June 2, that the training support vessel Kharg had caught fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. All the crew members of the vessel were safely transported to shore, but efforts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful and the Kharg sank.

The vessel had set out on a training mission to open waters a few days earlier and sank in the waters off Jask on Wednesday, June 2, after a 20-hour fire. The vessel had been in the possession of the Iranian army for 40 years.
