According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Monday, June 17, 2021, labor activist Maziar Seyednejad was arrested by security forces at his private home in Tehran and taken to an unknown location.

Although there is no precise information about the reasons for this citizen's arrest and the arresting agency, the labor activist's 3-year prison sentence was recently confirmed by the Khuzestan Provincial Court of Appeal.

Mazyar Seyednejad was arrested by security forces in Ahvaz on December 1, 2018 and transferred to Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz after completing the interrogation process. He was finally released from Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz on March 17, 2018 after posting a bail of 500 million Tomans, temporarily pending the completion of the trial.

On Saturday night, January 19, 2018, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRI) broadcast a report titled "Burnt Design" and published interrogation documents of a number of those arrested during the Khuzestan labor protests and televised confessions of Maziar Seyednejad, Sepideh Gholian, Esmaeil Bakhshi, Ali Nejati, and several others against themselves, in which they said they were connected to Marxist and subversive groups outside Iran.

According to sources close to the labor activist, Maziar Seyednejad's face was not easily recognizable in this film due to changes caused by the pressures and poor conditions of detention.

The first and second court sessions of this labor activist, accused of membership in an anti-regime group, gathering and colluding, and propaganda against the regime, were held in May 2019 and August 2020, respectively. The judge, citing the fact that he was charged with three charges for a single act, considered only one charge for sentencing.

He was ultimately sentenced to 3 years in prison by Branch 4 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on charges of membership in an opposition group. In June of this year, Branch 16 of the Khuzestan Provincial Court of Appeals upheld the labor activist's conviction.
