Municipality officials "beat up" workers building new space for coronavirus patients at Tajrish Hospital

The head of Tajrish Martyrs' Hospital says that "Tehran Municipality factors" have prevented the construction of a new space at Tajrish Martyrs' Hospital for coronavirus patients.

Reza Jalili Khosnood told the ILNA news agency on Wednesday, July 13, that municipal forces had "engaged" with construction workers building the hospital and "behaved very badly, taking away construction equipment and beating the construction workers."

According to the head of Tajrish Martyrs' Hospital, in the fifth wave of the coronavirus, the hospital's capacity has been completely filled and "we are already facing a problem with beds for accepting patients. Therefore, we have been working 24 hours a day to prepare the hospital to accept more patients."

Tehran Municipality has not yet reacted to this news.

Mohsen Hashemi, the head of Tehran City Council, said on July 10 that the coronavirus disease is growing in Tehran and that a "fifth catastrophe" has occurred.

According to him, "the number of victims in Tehran is gradually approaching 100 people per day."

The head of the Tajrish Martyrs' Hospital said that due to the municipality's actions, the completion of the hospital for the health of the city's people remained incomplete, while "the municipality should protect the city and its people, and instead of supporting the construction of a new space for coronavirus patients, it has opposed this action."
