The beginning of a wave of new arrests in Khuzestan Province

Some reports indicate a wave of new arrests in Khuzestan province.
The HRANA news website, which publishes Iranian human rights news, wrote on Wednesday, November 2, that at least 133 people have been arrested after an armed attack on an armed forces parade in Ahvaz on September 21.
There were four attackers in that attack, all of whom were killed, according to Islamic Republic security officials.
A wave of arrests followed, including of those who authorities said were linked to the incident. The governor of Khuzestan claimed that only one woman was among those arrested, but activists in the region said the number was more than one.
This week, the Center for Human Rights Defenders, headed by Shirin Ebadi, issued a statement expressing concern and condemning the widespread arrest of Ahwazi citizens following an armed attack on an armed forces parade in Ahwaz.
