Mike Huckabee: Previous visa restrictions for members of Christian organizations resolved
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee announced that visa problems for members of Christian organizations have been resolved.
After weeks of diplomatic tension over issuing visas to members of evangelical Christian organizations, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee wrote a sharp letter that escalated tensions to the point that Israel and the US announced on Monday, July 21, that they had reached an agreement on issuing visas to evangelical Christian organizations.
The agreement on visas for members of evangelical Christian organizations has ended concerns that their activities would be restricted. Mike Huckabee wrote on his X-Net account about the resolution of the problem: “The visa issue for American evangelical organizations has been fully resolved, and with the cooperation of the Ministry of the Interior and the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, the visa process has returned to its previous efficient routine.”
In a highly unusual letter, Huckabee warned that if administrative problems and delays in issuing visas for Christian volunteers and staff were not resolved, he would designate Israel as a country not welcoming Christians and consider retaliatory measures.
"We have reached a solution that is satisfactory to all parties, and Christian organizations will receive all the visas they need through a simple and efficient process," said Kalo Myers, a lawyer for Christian organizations, in response to the agreement.
Regarding this agreement and Huckabee's warning, a source in the Israeli Prime Minister's office also emphasized that Israel is never interested in undermining the freedom of Christian volunteers, adding: "We value evangelicals. It is very unfortunate that there is a problem, and obviously we need to fix it."
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee added: "The Christian organizations in question have never asked for special treatment and have only asked for a return to a procedure that has worked well for decades."
Sources close to Huckabee also said that the resolution of the dispute was not intended to be made public, but is considered an important step in maintaining strong ties between Israel and the powerful evangelical Christian community in America.
