16,000 Iranians banned from leaving in one year due to debt

The head of the country's Land and Property Registration Organization announced that more than 16,000 debtors were not allowed to leave the country in 2016. The exit ban has accelerated the collection of debts from debtors, and 8,492 people have received their debts from their debtors.

Some Iranian banks have announced “forgiveness of interest and penalties for bank debtors” or other incentives for debtors to collect their debts. But the best way to collect debts seems to have been to ban debtors from leaving. According to the head of the Iranian Real Estate and Documents Registration Organization, more than half of debtors were forced to pay their debts in 2016 to remove the ban on leaving.

Ahmad Tuyserkani announced on Thursday (June 1) that the collection of bank arrears increased by about 18 percent in 2016. According to Tuyserkani, 48,467 billion rials of bank arrears were collected in 2016, and compared to 2015, when 41,000 billion rials were collected, there was an increase of about 18 percent in the collection of bank arrears.

This year, 2016, more than 16,000 people were banned from leaving due to debt. According to the head of the country's Land and Property Registration Organization, the debtors were released from the ban on leaving after paying their debts in the same year.
