Soheila Hijab's letter from prison: Iranian prisoners were not treated like this in the Iran-Iraq war either

Soheila Hijab, a political prisoner and opponent of compulsory hijab, who is currently serving her sentence in the women's ward of the Kermanshah Correctional Center, wrote in a letter describing the mistreatment and mental and physical torture by prison officials that "Iranian prisoners were not treated like this during the Iran-Iraq war."

In a letter addressed to Ebrahim Raisi, President of Iran and former head of the judiciary, Ms. Hijab noted that she and many political prisoners are being tried in Iranian courts on trumped-up charges and for crimes they did not commit, and are being transferred to long-term solitary confinement.

In another part of the letter, which was published on the HRANA news website on Sunday, May 24, Ms. Hijab said that she is constantly being subjected to criminal charges and threats, and that she is constantly being transferred from one prison to another.

Ms. Hijab, who has been transferred to prison since June 20, 2020 to serve her sentence, was transferred from Sanandaj Prison to Kermanshah Correctional Center on January 7, 2020. The women's ward of Kermanshah Prison has been transferred to Kermanshah Correctional Center for some time.

This civil and political activist had previously been "violently" deported from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to Sanandaj Prison.

Ms. Hijab was sent to a hospital outside the prison in early March last year due to the deterioration of her physical condition following contracting COVID-19 in prison and the lack of timely medical care and access to care.

He has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court for charges such as "propaganda against the system," "gathering and colluding," "inciting public opinion with the intent to cause chaos," and "forming an illegal group," of which five years is the maximum sentence.
