Fifteenth year of imprisonment; A report on Habibollah Latifi's latest situation in Sanandaj Prison

Habibollah Latifi, a political prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment, is spending the fifteenth year of his sentence in Sanandaj prison without any prospect of release and deprived of visits.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, today, Thursday, June 10, 2022, Habibollah Latifi, a political prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment, is spending the fifteenth year of his imprisonment in Sanandaj Prison without any prospect of release and deprived of visits.

In recent years, despite Mr. Latifi's need for medical attention, the security agencies' refusal to grant him sick leave had exacerbated his illness. The political prisoner returned to Sanandaj Prison last week at the end of his sick leave.

He was also sent on sick leave on December 14, 1402, in his fourteenth year of imprisonment, after posting bail.

Habibollah Latifi, a final-year student in the field of industrial engineering at Ilam University, was arrested on November 1, 2007, and after enduring more than three months of solitary confinement, mistreatment, and beatings, he was sentenced to death by the First Branch of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Hassan Babaei, on charges of war and corruption on earth. Initially, this sentence was confirmed by the Court of Appeals. However, upon renewed objections from his lawyers, it was referred to the Supreme Court for review, where it was also confirmed.

Finally, in 2015, in his eighth year of imprisonment without leave, his death sentence was suspended due to public outcry and a circular called "Leadership Amnesty." After two years of uncertainty, in February 2017, the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court issued the final verdict and sentenced Habibollah Latifi to life imprisonment.
