Air France flights to Iran resumed

Air France has resumed direct flights between Paris and Tehran after eight years.

Air France Flight 738, which took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport on Sunday (April 17), landed at Imam Khomeini International Airport.

French Transport Minister Alain Vidalis and a number of businessmen were among the passengers on the flight who were welcomed by Iranian officials.

Mr. Vidalis said that he is proud of the resumption of Air France's direct flight and considers this development important for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Air France flights to Tehran were suspended in 2008 due to nuclear sanctions. The resumption of this flight is one of the achievements of the nuclear agreement (JCPOA).

This is despite the fact that Air France's return to Iran has not been without controversy.

Air France initially asked its female flight attendants to wear long-sleeved jackets and pants during the flight and to cover their hair after entering Iran and leaving the plane.

The decision sparked protests from the French National Union of Flight Attendants, which said some female Air France flight attendants did not want to wear the hijab.

But Air France executives reversed their decision and said they would give their crews the right to choose. That way, the flight attendants would not have to travel to Iran and a “special unit” would be formed to replace them.
