Oldest fragment of Homer's Odyssey discovered in Greece

An artifact discovered near the ancient city of Olympia may be the first fragment of Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey.

According to the analytical database - Iran Balkan News (Irba) quoted by the Guardian - archaeologists have discovered an ancient tablet buried in the ancient city of Olympia, in southern Greece, on which 13 lines of Homer's Odyssey are engraved, and it may be the first recorded work of this epic poem.

This piece of pottery is believed to date back to the third century AD, the ancient Roman era.

"If this date is confirmed, this tablet could be the oldest recorded fragment of Homer's works discovered in Greece," said the Greek Minister of Culture.
The tablet was discovered after three years of excavation by the Greek Archaeological Service in collaboration with the German Archaeological Institute, near the Castle of Zeus at the site of the Olympic Games in the Peloponnese.

The epic poem attributed to Homer, composed orally during the 8th century BC, was written on parchment during the Christian era, of which only a few fragments have been discovered in Egypt.
