The sentence is said to have been issued following the arrest of Farshte Toosi for participating in the December 16 ceremony in 2016 and on charges of propaganda against the system.
After her participation in that ceremony, this student activist was detained by the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence Organization for 8 days.
The issuance of this prison sentence for the student activist comes at a time when heavy sentences for detained students who protested during December of last year have also made headlines and sparked protests.
Students from Tehran and Allameh Tabataba’i universities protested against the sentences of 5 to 8 years in prison for these students, but the Tehran prosecutor did not accept the protests and attributed some of the detained students to specific political factions.
Some members of parliament have also criticized the government for detaining students based on reports from the Ministry of Intelligence, and the Ministry of Science has not taken any particular action to clear them of charges.
