1367 Massacre Trial: Hamid Nouri’s Neighbor Testifies Against Him

The trial of Hamid Nouri continued on Thursday, 7th of Bahman in Stockholm, Sweden, during which Rahman Darkashan testified as a witness that Hamid Nouri was his neighbor and is the same Hamid Abbasi who played a role in the mass execution of political prisoners at Gohardasht Prison in the summer of 1988.
Mr. Darkashan stated that he was arrested in December 1980 and was sentenced to three years imprisonment for supporting the People’s Fedayeen Organization—”Minority” faction, but was detained for eight years and two months in Evin, Qazalhassar, and Gohardasht prisons.
He was among the political prisoners known as “Melli-kosh,” prisoners who were not released despite the completion of their sentences and were kept in prison due to being “in the position.”
Hamid Nouri is accused of participating in the mass executions of political prisoners at Gohardasht Prison in Karaj, an allegation that he denies. He arrived at Stockholm Airport on 18 November 2019 on a direct flight from Iran and was immediately arrested.
Hamid Nouri claims that he was imprisoned in Evin from 1982 to 1993 and was sent to Gohardasht Prison several times on official assignments.
Rahman Darkashan testified during Hamid Nouri’s trial that he knew Hamid Nouri as a neighbor before he became “Hamid Abbasi,” and his brother had been a schoolmate of Nouri.
He stated that he saw Hamid Nouri in Evin Prison in 1986 and in Gohardasht Prison in 1988, and during the executions became aware that his name in the prison was Hamid Abbasi.
Mr. Darkashan had previously spoken and written about Nouri’s role in the executions in recent years and before Hamid Nouri’s arrest in Stockholm, Sweden.
He said that he was transferred to the death committee office on 28 August and saw Hossein Ali Nairi and Morteza Eshraqi in this committee.
The trial of Hamid Nouri, which will continue in Stockholm, Sweden until April of next year, has also drawn reactions from the Islamic Republic authorities.
Saeid Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the trial of Mr. Nouri on the first day of Shahrivar as “a design” by the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization and claimed that Sweden’s court “relied on a series of false stories and documentation and witness fabrication, all carried out by a small group.”
