5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Yasuj and Sisakhт; Dozens Injured

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the cities of Yasuj and Sisakh in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. According to initial reports, the earthquake has left dozens injured. In Sisakh, some houses have been destroyed and people have poured into the streets.
According to Iranian news agencies, following the 5.6 magnitude earthquake, the city of Sisakh fell into complete darkness and some houses have been destroyed.
The people of this city, frightened by the earthquake, have left their homes and come to the streets and alleys.
It is reported that 40 people have been injured and transferred to medical centers, but there have been no deaths. Some injuries occurred while people were fleeing.
The governor of Dana County reported a power outage in the city of Sisakh and said: So far, no casualties have been reported.
This earthquake occurred at 22:05 on Wednesday, February 18 (29 Bahman), at a depth of 10 kilometers underground.
The epicenter of this earthquake was recorded at 30.89 degrees north latitude and 51.57 degrees east longitude.
Sisakh is a city located 35 kilometers northwest of Yasuj, the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in Iran. This city is the center of Dana County.
According to IRNA news agency, the head of the Red Crescent Organization’s rescue and relief services announced the dispatch of 6 assessment teams to earthquake-affected areas on the border between Isfahan and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces.
The crisis management director of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province stated: The earthquake at 22:05 on Wednesday evening in Sisakh caused power and water outages and damage to residential buildings in the city.
This earthquake, due to its high magnitude of over 5 Richter scale, caused financial damage and destruction to roofs, walls of residential homes, and appliances inside people’s buildings.
Accurate assessment of the extent of casualties and financial damages is not yet available. Power outages have been resolved through officials’ efforts.
The weather in Sisakh city is extremely cold due to the mountainous nature of the area, and most parts of the city are still covered with snow due to snowfall.
According to officials, the drinking water supply in Sisakh has been cut off and service personnel are working to repair the drinking water distribution network.
The crisis management director of Isfahan Province said that Wednesday evening’s earthquake in Sisakh, a suburb of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, caused minor damages at the southern borders of the province and Semirom County.
He told IRNA that the Sisakh earthquake was felt at Isfahan’s southern borders, particularly in Semirom County.
