Families of Detained Ahvaz Protesters Call for Determination of Relatives’ Status
Images and messages circulated on social networks indicate that a group of families of those detained during recent gatherings in Ahvaz held protests in front of the provincial governorate and the office of the city’s representative in parliament.
Based on these images, the families of the detained in this gathering, which took place on Monday, April 17, held placards demanding clarification of the status of their detained relatives.
The protest gatherings in Ahvaz took place over two weeks ago in protest of the disregard shown to Arabs of Khuzestan in a children’s television program.
Their protest in the initial days resulted in violence and clashes following serious intervention by security forces.
Some reports indicate that approximately 500 people were detained during these gatherings.
