57th Anniversary of Revolution; Reza Pahlavi Considers Islamic Republic on Verge of Collapse

Reza Pahlavi, Crown Prince during Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi’s reign, issued a harsh statement Wednesday on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the revolution, protesting sharply against conditions in the country during the Islamic Republic era and saying that Iran’s current government is on the brink of collapse.
Prince Pahlavi addressed Iran’s economic situation and international standing in the statement, saying: “Banks have become centers of theft and corruption… Pension funds are bankrupt and the empty tables of retirees are spread out on the streets.”
The statement continued: “Our country has unfortunately become the world’s greatest supporter and exporter of terrorism, and the main cause of destruction and instability in the region. And this while old and young Iranians bend to the waist over garbage and spend cold winter nights in buses.”
Pahlavi also described Iranian women as “defenseless” against Islamic Republic laws and called these laws “reactionary” and contrary to women’s security.
This political figure further called for “solidarity” among all sectors to overthrow the Islamic Republic, stating: “It is our duty to become increasingly united and coordinated; let us join hands; and with hope and determination, let us remove the fabric of oppression from our country.”
He added: “A crooked load does not reach its destination. A building whose first brick was laid crooked has risen so crooked that it now stands on the brink of collapse, and will crumble with a great tremor from the sound of the movement of millions of laborers and the barefoot, and the roar of the throats of the oppressed and deprived.”
Hours before this statement, Empress Farah Pahlavi also referred to the 1979 revolution as the “sedition of 22 Bahman” in her message and emphasized that “I believe light will triumph over darkness.”
The publication of these messages comes as Islamic Republic officials have expressed dissatisfaction in recent months with some people’s attention to the Pahlavi family. This includes Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, who in a speech Tuesday of this week attacking “hostile” media, said that what these media publish about the Pahlavi era is not negative and strongly criticized this.
