75,000 Cases of Domestic Violence Registered at Iran’s Forensic Medicine in 1400

A senior official at the Forensic Medicine Organization announced on Wednesday, June 15, an increase in the recorded statistics of disputes in Iran, reporting that approximately 75,000 cases of domestic violence, including spouse abuse and child abuse, were registered in the year 1400.

Farzaneh Mahdizadeh, Head of the Clinical Examinations Department at Forensic Medicine, reported the total number of recorded disputes at forensic medicine as approximately 600,000 cases and emphasized that this level of disputes in one year is “a very high figure.”

According to this report, of the 600,000 dispute cases in 1400, which increased compared to 1399, approximately 400,000 disputes were related to men, and roughly one-third of the dispute case statistics were related to women.

This forensic medicine official also reported the examination of approximately 75,000 cases of various types of domestic violence in 1400, adding that this figure was equivalent to 37 percent of the total number of all types of forensic examinations.

Spouse abuse and child abuse are matters that fall under the category of domestic violence.

Roozbe Kardooni, head of the state-run Institute for Social Security Research of Iran, had stated last year that in recent years, domestic violence in major cities has increased by 77 percent.

The statistics provided by official centers regarding disputes and domestic violence are based on files formed in these centers and do not represent the actual statistics of all disputes and cases of domestic violence.
