A Porter Wounded by Landmine Explosion in Ouraman Border Areas

On Saturday, December 15th, a porter was injured in the foot following the explosion of a landmine left over from the Iran-Iraq War in the Ouraman border areas.

According to Hrana news agency, citing Kurdish news agency Porter News, on Saturday, December 15th, 1399, following the explosion of a landmine left over from the Iran-Iraq War in the Ouraman border areas, a porter was wounded in the foot.

In this report, the identity of this citizen was identified as Abbas Ebrahimi, 28 years old. He was the father of 2 children and had been engaged in porter work for the past 15 years.

Landmines left over from the war period kill and injure a number of citizens in border areas every year.

Approximately 42,000 square kilometers of Iranian territory are contaminated with unexploded and abandoned mines from the Iran-Iraq War.

The Iranian government also continues to produce and plant anti-personnel mines, and contrary to international treaties, believes that the use of these mines is the only effective way to secure the country’s long borders.

On this basis, sections of Iran’s borders with Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq have been mined; during the conflicts of the 1980s in Kurdistan, many areas of this region were also mined.
