Afghan Army Asks 200,000 Residents of Lashkar Gah City to Evacuate

A senior Afghan military commander has asked residents of Lashkar Gah city, which has recently come under Taliban siege, to evacuate the city.

Over the past three days, fierce battles have been raging between the Taliban and government forces in the city, with reports indicating that Taliban militants have besieged government offices and military bases in the city.

Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, August 3rd, that General Sami Sadat, commander of the Afghan 215th “Maiwand” Corps, has asked the residents to leave the city immediately.

The report states that the Afghan army is preparing a decisive offensive against Taliban forces in the city.

Addressing the 200,000 residents of Lashkar Gah city in southern Afghanistan, he said they should leave the city as quickly as possible so that the army can begin its anti-Taliban operations.

He said he understands that leaving their homes is difficult for the residents of this city, but if people evacuate for a few days, they will clear the Taliban from the region.

According to him, the Afghan army “does not even want to leave a single Taliban fighter alive.”
