Amir-Abdollahian: Opposing Parties Should Stop Blame Games

While countries involved in reviving the JCPOA have expressed surprise at Iran’s demands, Tehran once again reaffirmed its positions. The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic asked the opposing parties to “stop the blame game.”

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic posted a message on Instagram regarding the revival of the JCPOA and reiterated his country’s positions. While stating that the Islamic Republic “is serious about reaching a good agreement,” he wrote: “The agreement must be comprehensive so that people can tangibly feel its results.”

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has repeatedly stated in recent days that what the Iranian negotiating delegation presented in writing in Vienna is “completely within the framework of the JCPOA” and contains no demands beyond it.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic stated in his Instagram message that the Islamic Republic’s expectation is that the parties involved in negotiations “come to Vienna with specific proposals and responses including the lifting of sanctions and stop the blame game.”

He emphasized: “We will pursue the path of diplomacy and negotiations in Vienna, within the framework of negotiating logic and understanding.”

Reaction of Negotiating Parties

The opposing parties, however, have expressed surprise at Iran’s conditions for continuing JCPOA negotiations and consider them impractical.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, December 6 (Azar 15), that the Chinese also do not find Iran’s proposals acceptable and have attempted to make them more balanced.

The newspaper wrote, quoting European diplomats, that China’s senior negotiator in the JCPOA Joint Commission held a three-hour meeting with his Iranian counterpart in this regard.

A “senior American official” also told the Wall Street Journal that China and Russia are surprised that the Islamic Republic has distanced itself from its previous agreements in six rounds of nuclear negotiations during Hassan Rouhani’s presidency.

Previously, the United States and European countries had expressed surprise in this regard. Germany’s Foreign Ministry on Monday, while rejecting Iran’s proposals, emphasized that Germany remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution in this matter, but the time window closes more each day.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said in this regard: “We carefully reviewed the proposals and concluded that Iran has violated almost all previous agreements that were the result of several months of difficult negotiations.”

Germany’s Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Iran’s proposals “provide no ground” for a successful conclusion of negotiations.
