Another Case Opened Against Narges Mohammadi Simultaneously with Confirmation of Prison and Flogging Sentence

Concurrent with the confirmation of a 30-month prison sentence, 80 lashes, and a fine for Narges Mohammadi by Branch 11 of the Criminal Enforcement Court, this civil activist in Iran announced the opening of another case against her in Branch Two of Evin’s Interrogation Office.
Narges Mohammadi, Deputy Head and Spokesperson of the Human Rights Defenders Center, announced the confirmation of her prison and flogging sentence on Instagram, stating that since the inception of this case, she has repeatedly declared it fundamentally “shameless and oppressive” and will refuse to comply with the sentence imposed on her.
Ms. Mohammadi, stating that she did not participate in any judicial authority or trial session and had no defense lawyer, spoke about her flogging sentence, saying she will not allow “officials of the despotic religious government” to carry out the flogging order and will resist as much as she can.
The civil activist further added that she will not go to prison and, if forcibly returned to prison, she will protest inside the prison.
Taghi Rahmani, Narges Mohammadi’s husband, announced in early June of last month that this human rights activist was sentenced by Branch 1177 of the Criminal Court of the Quds Judicial Complex in Tehran to endure 80 strokes of discretionary flogging, 30 months of discretionary imprisonment, and payment of two fines on charges of propaganda activity against the system through the distribution of statements, sit-ins at the prison office, disobedience to prison management and authorities, breaking windows, and defamation related to torture allegations and assault charges.
