Case Files Opened Against Protesting Truck Drivers and Striking Drivers

The Judiciary announced the opening of legal cases against protesting truck drivers and striking drivers.
Truck drivers and heavy vehicle operators began their strike on May 19th. The strike started in Bandar Abbas and spread to various cities across the country. On Tuesday, May 27th, drivers in the cities of Arak, Mahallati, Kermanshah, Ahar, and Gonabad also ceased their daily operations and joined the strikes.
Now that a week has passed since the truck drivers’ strike began, the Judiciary announced the opening of cases against them. Kamran Mirhajaji, the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Fars Province, announced that cases have been opened against drivers for legal prosecution.
While accusing the drivers of obstructing cargo and goods transportation services, he stated: “Legal action has been taken against a number of those disrupting truck driver operations in Fars Province, some have been arrested, and cases have been filed against others.”
On Monday as well, other truck drivers and heavy vehicle operators in various cities protested in support of their demands and socioeconomic and occupational grievances, ceasing work and joining the strikers.
Reza Akbari, Head of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, also commented on these strikes: “A limited number of drivers are attempting to incite unrest, which is the result of provocation by hostile foreign media outlets, and they want to portray the country’s roads as unsafe.” He also accused foreign Persian-language media outlets of presenting exaggerated portrayals of truck drivers’ problems.
The Union of Truck Drivers and Operators Throughout Iran announced in a statement that security forces attacked some of his colleagues with pepper spray and arrested some of them. The truck drivers’ union, in response to the repetition of repressive actions by Islamic Republic personnel against drivers during the recent strike period, emphasized the continuation of the strike until the demands of this occupational group and the rights of truck drivers are addressed.
In its statement, this union announced that 105 cities have joined these protests and reiterated that the strike will continue until all demands of this occupational group are met.
The strike by truck drivers and all heavy vehicle operators and the disruption of imports and exports from the south to the north of the country has thrown Khamenei and regime officials into great fear. Many people, while expressing support for the massive truck drivers’ strike, announced that Khamenei is surrounded by people’s strikes throughout the country, and if these strikes continue, Khamenei and his supporters will certainly prefer escape to staying put.
People also stated that we all stand together to reclaim our Iran.
