Coordinated Gatherings of Thousands of Retirees in Various Iranian Cities

Thousands of retirees protested against the implementation process of wage equalization in various Iranian cities including Tehran, Ahvaz, and Tabriz.
Based on information and videos published on social media, in recent days, a number of social security retirees in various Iranian cities gathered in front of administrative buildings in their cities, including provincial governorates, city administrations, and social security offices, and in Tehran in front of the parliament building.
These retirees, protesting against the poor economic conditions and inflation prevailing in Iran, held placards and chanted slogans including “Rising prices and inflation are a blight on people’s lives” and “Wage increases commensurate with inflation is our rightful demand,” demanding the fulfillment of officials’ promises and precise implementation of Article 111 of the Social Security Law and wage equalization.
According to Article 111 of the Social Security Law, the minimum pension of retired workers should not be less than the minimum wage set for working employees, a law that according to these retirees has not yet been implemented to date.
Retirees in Ahvaz demanded justice in social security at their gathering:
Retirees in Tehran also say that determining pensions based on minimum wage is arbitrary and illegal:
This is not the first time that retirees in Iran have held widespread gatherings in various Iranian cities. In recent years, retirees have also organized extensive gatherings criticizing the government’s and parliament representatives’ performance, demanding attention to their demands such as wage equalization and precise implementation of the Civil Service Management Law.
The poor economic situation has worsened in recent months at a time when new dimensions of widespread financial corruption by individuals and institutions affiliated with the Islamic Republic regime are being revealed daily. Cases of economic corruption by government-affiliated individuals and the Islamic Republic regime’s unlimited financial support for terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas are among these instances of corruption.
The United States says the Islamic Republic spends its country’s wealth on supporting terrorist groups and destabilizing the Middle East instead of its people. The United States says the Islamic Republic spends its country’s wealth on supporting terrorist groups and destabilizing the Middle East instead of its people. The United States has repeatedly condemned the institutionalized financial corruption and plunder of Iran’s God-given resources by regime officials and has considered them among the main causes of Iran’s economic and financial problems.
Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, recently said on this matter: “The people of Iran have spoken clearly and decisively. They rejected forty years of corruption and abuse and demanded an end to theft and the prioritization of foreign actors’ interests over those of the Iranian people.”
