Earthquake in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Leaves Over 100 Injured

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck near Yasuj in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, shaking the city and surrounding areas.
Iranian domestic news agencies reported that the earthquake on Wednesday morning, Ordibehesht 12, left dozens of people injured.
A spokesperson for the National Emergency Organization said that the number of those injured in the earthquake in Sisekht City, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, has risen to 105 people.
Jalal Pouranfard, director of the Emergency Medical Center of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, said that conditions after the initial hours have changed from a red alert to orange, and fewer personnel are engaged in transporting the wounded.
Amanollah Jahanbin, chief executive of the Red Crescent Society of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, stated that this earthquake has so far caused no deaths, but added that the incident caused rockslides in some areas of the province. He urged mountaineers and nomads to avoid traveling in mountainous areas.
According to local authorities, the earthquake caused power and water outages in some areas in its initial hours. The roads from Dena to Yasuj and from Sisekht to Yasuj were temporarily closed.
According to ISNA news agency, the governor of Boyer-Ahmad County also reported a water cut-off in the city of “Madevan” and its surroundings following the “Sisekht-Yasuj” earthquake in this county.
Last November, a severe earthquake struck the border areas of Kermanshah Province, leaving 569 dead.
Kermanshah and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces are located on the slopes of the Zagros Mountain Range.
