Educational Poverty in Iran; 935,000 Out-of-School Students in the Country

The director general of primary education at the Ministry of Education announced the presence of 935,000 out-of-school students in the country.
According to Hrana news agency citing ISNA, the director general of primary education at the Ministry of Education announced the presence of 935,000 out-of-school students in the country, with the report referencing approximately 185,000 students who have dropped out of education and 750,000 school dropouts in the country.
Mohammad Hossein Hosseini, in a series of meetings on multidimensional poverty and poverty alleviation policies titled “Educational Poverty in Iran,” stated that he is pleased external organizations are engaging in education matters, saying: “We have no way to develop the country except through education and training.”
The director general of primary education at the Ministry of Education continued: “But if for any reason our children do not come to school, or if they progress to higher levels with academic decline, while on the other hand some students achieve the highest quality learning at enormous costs, a very catastrophic gap is created that will have many consequences. This very gap and disparity could be the source of crime, corruption, and so on.”
Hosteini, noting that sometimes our actions make a complex problem even more complicated, said: “When children are out of school or have poor learning, it is the source of adversity. A critical discourse must be formed based on the fact that education is not in good condition; we have 750,000 school dropouts and 185,000 out-of-school students. In terms of educational access, space, equipment, and student presence in school are very important. Also, there is a need to demand accountability in the field of education quality.”
