Eutelsat Protests Islamic Republic Over Jamming of Satellite Networks

Eutelsat announced that it has filed a protest with the authorities of the Islamic Republic due to the transmission of interference aimed at disrupting satellite networks.
Eutelsat, a company headquartered in Paris, announced on Thursday that it has experienced disruption in the transmission of several digital television and radio networks broadcasting in Persian from outside Iran.
According to the company’s statement, the Islamic Republic has been jamming two Eutelsat satellites since September 26.
In a statement, Eutelsat called on Iranian authorities to immediately stop transmitting interference, emphasizing that intentional jamming of satellite signals is prohibited under the regulations of the International Telecommunication Union.
The statement said Eutelsat’s technical experts are working around the clock to minimize the impact of this jamming.
Previously, some reports on social media indicated disruption and outage of several Persian and Kurdish-language satellite networks on Eutelsat’s satellites in Iran.
This disruption coincides with widespread restrictions on citizens’ internet access and the cutting of mobile internet services.
Authorities of the Islamic Republic have repeatedly restricted citizens’ access to the internet and satellite networks during street protests and resort to suppression in the absence of internet and the ability to transmit images and reports from Iran.
On Tuesday, 11 human rights organizations also called on Islamic Republic authorities in a statement to immediately restore full internet and communications access and refrain from cutting off internet services, reducing internet speed, and blocking or disrupting various social networks and online communication tools.
The transmission of interference on these satellites of the French company Eutelsat comes as Tehran-Paris relations have become tense again amid nationwide protests in Iran, and the Islamic Republic has accused two French citizens of espionage and attempting to undermine national security.
