Fards News Agency Calls for Mass Executions Similar to Those in the 1980s

Following the end of the Israel-Iran conflict, Fards News Agency called for repeating mass executions similar to those carried out in the 1980s.

Fards News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reacted to the Israel-Iran war and, while referring to the 1980s executions, wrote: “In the current situation where some mercenary elements have provided information to the enemy with the support of Israel and Western intelligence organizations, they deserve to be executed in the manner of 1988.”

The Islamic Republic executed approximately five thousand political prisoners from prisons across the country during the 1980s, many of whom were buried in mass graves without identification. A crime that Islamic Republic officials have continued to refuse to acknowledge responsibility for and clarify the extent of these executions.

The aforementioned agency also added: “Contrary to the propaganda of hostile networks that portrayed 1988 executions as violations of human rights and attempted to remember figures like Raisi with the title of ‘Executioner Ayatollah,’ public opinion respects the necessity of such proper handling.”

Following the beginning of the ceasefire between Israel and the Islamic Republic, dozens of political figures and civil activists have been arrested in Iran, with no information available about the status of many of them. Additionally, the intensity of repression against religious minorities and arrests has increased significantly.

Manouchehr Mottaki, a parliamentary representative and former foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, said in an interview with Islamic Republic Radio and Television: “The Islamic Republic must avenge the blood of its martyrs and bring Israel to the trial table. Israel realized just hours into the war that it had not achieved what it wanted.”

Abolfattah Shekarchi, the spokesman for the General Staff of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces, also stated: “Israel claims that Iran’s airspace is open to them, but we say that it was these missiles and drones of ours that penetrated the world’s most advanced air defense systems. The more intense the aggression, the more powerful our response will be compared to the enemy.”

He also added: “We use the appropriate weapons for response commensurate with the type of aggression, and we have many surprises for the enemy that they will witness on the battlefield. Our military production is active and swift, our hands are full, and we can continue fighting for a long time.”
